Full product description
The Bolga Bag is a hand-knitted bag made from durable grass (elephant grass) that grows in northern Ghana. This is also one of the poorest regions in Ghana.
It takes about 2-5 days to make one bag, depending on the complexity of the pattern and the skill of the knitters. In the Bolgatanga region, this is a traditional craft that has been passed down from generation to generation.
Production and subsequent sale are often the only way for people in this area to earn money for their basic livelihood. The profits from the sale of Bolga Bags go exclusively to the families of the knitters and their wider community for charitable projects.
Bolga Bags may be deformed in various ways as a result of transport. To restore them to their desired shape, simply rinse them with cold water (do not soak the leather handle!). Then let the basket stand for about a minute to absorb the water. Then shape it from the inside and leave it hanging to dry. When soaking the basket, you can add a few drops of lavender oil to keep it smelling nice for a long time!
Dimensions: base +/- 25cm, upper part: +/- 50cm
